Establishing Your Meeting Culture

When you leave a meeting complaining it should have been an email, you have no meeting culture.

When you leave a meeting, not sure who is doing what — you have no meeting culture.

When you spend the first 20 minutes explaining the point of the meeting, you have no meeting culture.

Everyone complains about meetings, but the first thing we do when we have a problem is say, “Let’s meet.”

The problem isn’t that you are having the meeting or that you have a need to meet; the problem is that your team doesn’t know how to meet. We talk about Culture and Team fit all the time, but completely skip over the one thing that drives your culture and team ethos — the meeting.

After all, once there is more than 1 person at your company or on your team, you’re going to have meetings.

Establishing Team Meeting Culture does not have to be onerous and involve week-long corporate off-sites; it’s simply an established set of rules that the group follows.

You’ve heard many from large corporations over the years;

  • No meetings over 5 people.
  • No PowerPoint.
  • Must have action items.

The list goes on. I don’t agree with all of these, but having them in place is…
