Coding is a craft — whether you’re in the sleekest office space setup with spinning rims or whether it’s a beat-up Chromebook that has seen the test of time and you keep tapping into all the time — it’s a craft, and we all love it for what it brings us.

I watch many woodworking reels of craftsman boiling down a 16-hour project into 60 seconds of great content that makes you want to go pick up a chisel and start whittling a tree to see if I can get there as fast as I did.

I can’t, I haven’t put in the time

That’s what it means to have a craft, to put in the time and learn.

When it comes to being a craftsman, your tools are the most important part of your kit. They are the comfortable grips, the worn edges, the tattered clothes that make your work sing.

T-shirts, a quiet keyboard, dual monitors, good quality speakers, and a standalone desktop — these are the tools of my craft. I don’t care for laptop docking stations, I want a tower with all the ports on it. I want my screens that let me know windows here, there, and everywhere so I can modify my work on one screen and watch it run on the other.
