Standups are tough.
In all the meetings I have on an ongoing basis, they are the hardest to execute correctly and the ones that I put the most effort into getting right.
When to Schedule it
For one, simply scheduling the standup is an activity in of itself that you will put more thought into than any other meeting you have.
They will always break up someone’s day, no matter the size of your team, someone will be in the zone, a different timezone, or have a variety of other things going on in their life that this “thing” is now interrupting.
Scheduling a standup is an art and one that must be done to optimize the team’s best time to get started and be ready for that first kick of the day.
And really, who is standing up these days?
We’re all at our desks, sitting down in the most comfortable pants, getting started on the day.
I have a standing desk and there are days I completely forget to use it. It’s not till afterward I mumble to myself — “oh yeah… standup…”
The Kick
