I’ve been reading lots of articles on the failure of Technical Interviews and am gobsmacked, shocked, and surprised that Coding Tests and 4-hour interviews are no longer working.
Our last episode of the Remotely Prepared Podcast was with an HR rep who told us that the developer in question, that being interviewed, had someone in the room the whole time with them, feeding them answers.
And Coding Tests?
Let’s be honest, they are designed to trip people up, and even though you can evaluate style and cleanliness, composition and creativity are learned over the period of one’s career.
And we haven’t even got to the point where AI can be prompted to answer the questions, or Github Copilot can be used to cleanse your code.
With all the effort that goes into creating a Coding Test, are you truly wanting to spend another 1.5 hours post-interview to evaluate whether someone else did the work or an AI bot? You have much better things to do with your time than you should be spending it doing this.
