We are Nicer to AI Than our Own People

4 min readJul 23, 2025

Like anyone in software, I am reading and learning about AI. After all, from everything I have read, it is coming for my job, my house, and everything else in my life.

So, like any good Software Developer, knowledge is power, and I’m learning about the different AI engines and how to use them. Amid all this work, I see the stories about people getting laid off and everything about our interactions with AI (don’t waste time saying please and thank you) that are going on.

In addition, while going through a few courses on AI, I began to feel wholly frustrated about what the best strategies are for working with AI. There are now jobs for “Prompt Engineer” — how best to tell AI what to do, and there are marketplaces for the best prompts that you can use today in getting AI to do its best work.

So in all of this — “WHY ARE WE TREATING AI BETTER THAN OUR OWN PEOPLE?”

Case in Point: The Anatomy of a Good Prompt

When working with any AI prompt, the messaging is always the same.

  1. Be specific.
  2. Be clear.
  3. Don’t ask for too much all at once, or it will get confused.
  4. Keep summaries brief.
